In partnership with state high school athletics associations, the NAIA offers a recognition program that combines its practical character training programs with association-specific activities for coaches, students and parents. The program is open to every secondary school in the state and rewards schools who complete the five requirements during the school year.
Two of the five-star requirements comprise the NAIA’s Champions of Character online training for coaches, parents and students that is tailored for the secondary school audience. The remaining activities are determined by the association. Schools that complete the program receive a banner to hang in the gym, a digital version to feature on the school website and publicity for the honor.
The Champions of Character training is made available at no cost to the participants, school or association. Administration of the compliance and awards is handled by the state association.

Head Coach Character Training Head coaches will take the online Character Driven Coaching course, which is designed to show coaches how to deliberately teach character development alongside the Xs and Os. Coaches create their own plan for using teachable moments to build character through athletics. The two-hour course can be taken at the coach's own pace.
Video Training Series for Coaches, Students and Parents The training videos are shown to school team members of all sports and activities, as well as parents of all team members and coaches.
Custom programs The three remaining requirements are customized by the state association and can leverage existing educational programs, workshops, annual leadership or sportsmanship summits or other requirements that are determined by the association.
