In conjunction with the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) numerous Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) volleyball teams will be participating in a month long campaign to raise funds and sponsor awareness events in the fight against breast cancer. Briar Cliff (Iowa) debuted pink uniforms on Tuesday night in their home match against Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) to "Spike Out Cancer".
Breast Cancer Awareness is of particular importance for the Briar Cliff Chargers as Head Coach Mary Schroeder-Miller is a cancer survivor. Each player was introduced before the game as playing for a cancer survivor or in memory of someone who lost their battle with the disease. After each player was introduced the team announced that they were all playing in honor of their Cancer Free Coach.
Another slogan that will be used all month long is "Dig Pink" and various conference schools will wear Dig Pink Shirts along with other cancer awareness apparel. To read more about the AVCA's month long campaign go to their website at www.avca.org.
For specific cancer awareness events on each GPAC campus you can visit each institution's website. Visit www.gpacsports.com for a complete list of member institutions.
