(ST. CHARLES, Mo.) – The Lindenwood women's volleyball and soccer teams shared success on the field this season, they also share something else, giving back to the community.

Last Monday the women’s volleyball team hosted a clinic to help members of the Special Olympics improve their volleyball skills.

The clinic started with circuit drills. The women’s volleyball team taught volleyball fundamentals through different drills including hitting, blocking and other defensive moves. After the kids put on Lindenwood jerseys, the clinic shifted to a mock game and pictures.

“It’s good the girls are willing to take part in events like these,” Ron Young, head volleyball coach said. “They really looked like they had a good time.”

The women's soccer team also helps special needs children.

Every Saturday morning the women’s soccer team gathers at the Anheuser Busch Conference & Sports Centre not to practice, but to mentor special needs children with disabilities.

Through the organization SPENSA, Special Needs Soccer Association, the Lady Lions give back to the community by helping kids play soccer. The women’s soccer team helps build their soccer skills and assists with games.

“It’s really a humbling experience,” Laurie Kaminski, head coach of women’s soccer said.

People with disabilities from the age of 5-21 are welcome to join the group. SPENSA is free of charge and funded by donations of individuals, corporations and local soccer clubs.
